Flying into Perth we saw a mass of smoke billowing from the mountains towards Perth. It turned out to be back-burning (or some kind of controlled burning), but it still made the whole of Perth smoky for a day. Luckily it cleared within 24 hours and we had gorgeous weather the whole time.
I find smoke makes for pretty, but not so easily photographed, sunsets.
