This was one of my favourite sculptures at Sculptures by the Sea; from a conceptual standpoint it could mean so many things…
- Weight of the world on your shoulders
- It’s like riding a bike (and yet it’s hardly ever quite as easy or simple as that makes it sound)
- In this world we’re always trying to get ahead; we will push ourselves to death to get what we think will make us happy, but then we’ll just be dead, or too tired to enjoy what we wanted
- We want to depend on ourselves, carry our own burdens, but that is just bloody hard work
- We want heaven & we want to take our stuff with us, but we can’t
- The death of the idolisation of Lance Armstrong
I’m not sure what the artist intended, but we found it interesting to think about.
